Magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor

Magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor
In the above figure, there is a straight current carrying conductor crossed through a paper sheets. The paper sheet has a iron filing around the hole from where conductor passed through the paper.
When the current ‘i’ passes through the conductor. We observed that the iron filing present around the conductor get active and form a concentric circles around the conductor.
This happens because when a current passes through a material it produces magnetic field lines. In the same way here also the straight current carrying conductor produced magnetic field lines ‘B’ in the form of concentric circles around the conductor.
Factor affecting magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor.
  • When the distance from the current carrying conductor increases then the magnetic field intensity decreases. That means B ∝ 1/r
  • When the intensity of current in a conductor increases then magnetic field lines also increases. That means B ∝ I.
  • When we increases the length of the current carrying conductor then magnetic field lines also increases. That means B ∝ L.
FAQ
state the form of magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor.
The magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor is in the form of concentric circles. The center of concentric circle will be the hole from where conductor passed through the paper.
The magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor at any point is given by

The formula of the magnetic field lines around a straight current carrying conductor at any point is B = k IL/ r². Where k is constant.
