Floriculture is the cultivation of flower plants and gardens in a large area where every flower’s plants and seeds are arranged in such a way that it looks like a nursery.

The cultivation or plantation of flower plants are done by experts who did the course of floriculture or horticulture. The person who did the course or studied about plant cultivation are known as floriculturist.

A floriculturist is not only cultivate flower or flower’s farming. They do a variety of jobs like

• flower farming, 
• flower’s seed examine, 
• research on seeds or flowers.
• guarding flower
• nursery business etc.

So after completing the course of floriculture or horticulture you can become one of the above person. Because all career options that has given above, comes under floriculture.

• The first importance of floriculture is to cultivate more and more flowers because in festival seasons the cost of decorating flowers will high due to less cultivation of flowers.
• The second most importance of floriculture is to employ the people who loves farming.
• The third important thing is to create a beautiful environment by cultivating flowers around us.

To become a floriculturist in India. You have to follow the following steps.

Step 1:- first complete class 12th board with 60% aggregate marks in PCMB.

Step 2:- Make sure you have physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics subjects in class 12. Mathematics is not compulsory.

Step 3:- After class 12th board. Take admission in graduation.

Step 4:- The subject in graduation should be in bachelor of science in biology or botany.

Step 5:- After completing b.sc. Give the entrance of HORTICET exam.

Step 6:- In horticulture field choose one subject as floriculture. Because floriculture is a part of horticulture.

The main difference between horticulture and floriculture are as follows:-

• Horticulture is the branch of science that comes under botany but floriculture is the branch of science that comes under horticulture.
• If a person complete the education in horticulture is known as horticulturist but if a person complete the education in floriculture is known as floriculturist.
• A horticulturist can get jobs in floriculture as well as in other horticulture field. But a floriculturist can get jobs only in floriculture field.
• Floriculture is a part of horticulture but horticulture is not a part of floriculture.

• Bedding plants :- Bedding plants are the types of floriculture that cultivate flowers beds annually. Basically this type of floriculture are done in off season in such a way that the effect of outer environment cannot harm it. And when the season came, the grown indoor plants has transplanted in outdoor field.

• Potted plants :- This type of floriculture are done for home indoor plants and gardens. Like those plants that people prefer to keep inside the house in pots.

• Hanging plants :- This type of floriculture are cultivating for decorating purpose. You must have seen some plants that are kept in pots and hang them.

• Dried plants :- This type of floriculture has big demand in the market. Basically this type of flower plants are very costly. The cultivation of dried plants are done in such a way that after growing the flower. These flowers are dried for making some sweets, food items, food liquid etc. For example Kesar, Gulab jal etc.

• Cut plants :- This type of floriculture is done in gardens and parking area. In some hotel’ s parking area or park. You have seen some animals structure made from grass. That is called cut plants.
• Cut flowers :- Cut flowers are basically plugged flowers from plants. They are cutting for decoration in merrage function, birthday parties, etc.
