A girl walks 200m to east and then 150m to north. Find the distance ?

If a girl walks 200m towards east and then 150m towards north. Then find the distance of the girl from the starting point ?
This question can be solved in many process. The most simplest and easy will be to solve it by Pythagoras Theorem.
Pythagoras Theorem Said that, In a right angled triangle the sum of the squares of the legs of the triangle is equal to the square of the longest side.
Longest side is known as Hypotenuse of the triangle.
In a geographical map the directions are given as:-
N
E                             w
S
Now, our question said that girl first walk 200 meter towards east. That means a straight line is drown towards east. like x – axis.
Again, The girl walks 150 meter towards north. Means upward direction. Like y – axis. Hence, the figure will be like right angled triangle. As shown in fig.
A girl walks 200m to east and then 150m to north. Find the distance ?

Find the Distance of the girl from the starting point.
Now, the final point of girl is at the top of the y – axis. And the initial point of the girl was at the right corner of the x – axis.
So, the distance of girl between initial and final point is called Hypotenuse or the longest side of the above right angled triangle.
To find the longest side. We use Pythagoras Theorem.
AB2 (legs)  + BC2 (legs) = AC2 (longest side)
Longest Side = √ (AB2 + BC2)
Distance of the girl = √ (200)2 + (150)2
Distance of the girl = √ 40000 + 22500
Distance of the girl = √ 62500
Distance of the girl = 250 meter
Hence, If a girl walks 200 meters towards east and then 150 meters towards north. Then the distance of the girl from the starting point is 250 meters.
