why is sound wave called a longitudinal wave not transverse wave?
- Transverse Wave:- Those wave whose particles vibrates in the perpendicular in the direction of sound wave.
- Longitudinal wave:- Those wave whose particles vibrate parallelly in the direction of sound wave called longitudinal wave.
Sound wave are longitudinal wave because sound wave vibrates parallel to the particles of the medium. Means when an object produces sounds it travels through a medium. And the particles of the medium vibrates parallel to the sound save called longitudinal wave. but this is not so in transverse wave. because the particles vibrate perpendicularly to the direction of sound wave. So that’s the reason that sound wave are longitudinal wave not transverse wave.
