What is the Relation Between Science and Scriptures

What is the Relation Between Science and Scriptures?

The relation between science and scriptures has been a topic of discussion for centuries. Both try to explain the truth of existence, but their methods and languages are different. Let’s understand this in a simple and step-by-step way.

1. What is Science?

Science means systematic study based on observation, experiment, and evidence.

  • Science focuses on how things happen.
  • It looks for cause and effect relationships.
  • Example: Science explains that rain happens due to condensation of water vapor.

2. What are Scriptures?

Scriptures are ancient texts like the Vedas, Upanishads, Bible, Quran, and others that guide humans toward spiritual, moral, and universal truths.

  • Scriptures focus on why things happen.
  • They deal with purpose and consciousness.
  • Example: In Hindu scriptures, rain is said to be controlled by the god Indra, symbolizing the divine role in nature’s balance.

3. Science and Scriptures: Two Paths to the Same Truth

Though they appear different, both aim to understand reality.

  • Science uses logic and experiment.
  • Scriptures use intuition and spiritual experience.
Means — science explains the outer world, while scriptures explain the inner world.

4. When Science Supports Scriptures

Many modern scientific discoveries were already mentioned in ancient texts in symbolic or coded form.

  • Big Bang Theory – Similar to Hindu concept of “Brahmanda Utpatti” (cosmic egg or universe creation).
  • Atoms – Ancient sage Kanada mentioned “Paramanu” (smallest particle).
  • Yogic Science – Modern medicine and psychology now accept the benefits of yoga and meditation for mental health.

5. When Science and Scriptures Seem Opposite

Sometimes, science rejects scriptural ideas because they lack experimental proof.
For example:

  • The idea of heaven or karma can’t be tested in a laboratory.
But that doesn’t mean they are false — it means they belong to a different dimension of understanding.

6. The Bridge Between Science and Spirituality

Great thinkers like Albert Einstein, Swami Vivekananda, and Nikola Tesla believed that science and spirituality are connected.
Einstein said, “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”
This means both need each other — science gives us clarity of matter, and scriptures give us clarity of mind and soul.

7. Final Understanding

Science tells us how the universe works,
Scriptures tell us why the universe exists.
When both are understood together, human knowledge becomes complete — one gives power, the other gives purpose.
