Give reason why ultrasonic sound waves are sent from ships towards the seabed.

Ultrasonic sound are those sound wave which cannot hear by human ear. Means ultrasound are the upper limit of audible of human sound wave. Basically ultrasonic sound waves are higher than 20 thausand hartz.
The reason behind the sending of ultrasonic sound waves towards the seabed is to measure the distance between the ships and seabed. And the device which measure the distance called SONAR. This device also measure the travelling and reflected sound wave.
SONAR is a device which detect and determine the how far the object is situated and which direction. This device is used in submarine or ships.

How SONAR measure the distance?

When ultrasonic sound waves sent to the seabed through the device SONAR then it measure the distance of both incidence and reflected sound wave.
SONAR is also help to determine the size of the object as well as the distance of the object.
