Newton's third laws of motion with example

According to newton's third law of motion for every action there is equal and opposite reaction.
newton's third law of motion with example
  • two charged bodies attracting each other with equal and opposite forces.
  • Action and reaction are equal in magnitude but opposite in directions.
  • Action and reaction do not cancel each other because they acts on different bodies.
  • Force always occur in pair.

  • Action and reaction act simultaneously out of the pair of forces any forces can be called action and the other reaction.

Example of newton's third law of motion

  1. During acceleration of a car the tire pushes on read and road in turn pushes on tire.
  2. The rocket pushes on the exhaust gas and in turn the exhaust goes pushes on the rocket.

Law of conservation of momentum

According to law of conservation of momentum total initial momentum is equal to final momentum.

m1*u1 + m2*u2 = m1*v1 + m2*v2

Application of conservation of mass

  1. Recoil of a gun
Let m = mass of the bullet
M = mass of the gun
V = velocity of bullet
V = velocity of recoil of gun

Before the gun is fired, both the gun and the bullet are at rest, so that their total momentum of the system is Zero.

Impulse or change in momentum

  • The impulse of a force on a body is equal to the product of the force and the time for which it acts.
  • A force which acts upon a body for a very short time is called an impulse force.
  • Impulse as a product of force and time for which the force acts and it is equal to the total change in momentum.
  • It is denoted by I.
I = F x t
  • Impulse is a vector quantity. its direction  is same as that of change in momentum of force.
  • From above direction
Impulse = change in momentum

F x t = mv - mu

F = m ( v - u )/ t

It means if 'F' is increased then time is decreased and time is increased then force is decreased.

Application of Impulse

  1. While catching a fast moving cricket ball , the player lower his hand along with the ball.
  2. A person falling from a certain height received more several injuries if he falls on a cemental floor then if he falls on a heap of sand or cotton then he can't receives any injuries.
  3. An athelet after finishin a race runs for a while and then stop. this is because if he stop imediatly the change in momentum takes very small times and the force exerted in his leg bone joints/ muscles may cause any injury.
